DACHSER and GRAVELEAU assert their European ambition by building a HUB in SARREBRUCK

DACHSER will spend 13.5 million euros to build a hub that is to be the central platform of its pan-European logistics network. Planned on a 12-hectare site in ÜBERHERRN, the investment project also includes the construction of a new building for the DACHSER agency in SARREBRÜCK.

The main objective of the specifications was to find a site in the heart of Europe enabling the major economic centres within a radius of 500 km to be reached within 24 hours. After careful analysis of a number of sites in France and Germany, the final choice was that of SARREBRÜCK/Überherrn.

Work is due to begin in mid-October 2001, with an initial phase concerning the construction of a loading area covering 8,400 sq. m (118 bays) and 2,900 sq. m of office space; completion is planned for mid-2002.

Another phase of development includes plans for a storage area covering 16,500 sq. m, with controlled temperature and free temperature sections, providing customers with an integrated solution for storage in the European hub of the network.

Initially, over 50 agencies and subsidiaries of the DACHSER/GRAVELEAU network in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland will be linked to the hub on a daily basis. In the medium term, other platforms of the network will be connected, enabling delivery across Europe within 48 hours, including destinations in Scandinavia, Great Britain, Spain, etc. LYON will thus be linked to STOCKHOLM, MALMÖ, GÖTEBORG or COPENHAGEN in 48 hours.

This project, which has been piloted by a Franco-German working group, is a strong symbol of cooperation between the GRAVELEAU and DACHSER teams to boost the shared European ambition that was at the driving force behind the alliance between the two brand names in May 1999.
